The Santa Justa Elevator was built in 1902 by Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, and is one the the most interesting monuments in dowtown area.
In Gothic Revival Romatic style, it is also know by Carmo Elevator, since it serves as link between Rua do Ouro and Rua do Carmo.
It started to work by steam, and in 1907 started to work by electric energy, being the only vertical lift in Lisbon.
On the top of the Elevator there is a cafeteria where you have a wonderful panoramic view over the city center and the river Tagus.
